Default Total Statement and Position of Sustainability

(R.K Enterprises) in India

Sustainable enterprises are the ones which look at long term growth in terms of economics, environmental quality and social equity. These 3 factors also known as the Triple bottom line are the basis of sustainable growth. We further will look at sustainable factors concerning man power business (R.K Enterprises) India, in terms of dimensions, Mechanisms and application. Main business of R.K enterprises is to supply semi skilled and unskilled labour (man power) in factories and industries.
Sustainable enterprise is looking beyond revenues and margins but working for social economical cause, ethical business, creating consumer loyalty and brand image which hold well in the long term in sustainable enterprise, giving back the society some percentage of what we have received until now
It may include Helping build better ecology, society, and better use of scares resources.

Dimensions with regard to R.K Enterprises in India:
There are 3 dimensions to sustainability; they are economic, socio-cultural and biophysical. We are going to look at these three dimensions in context to India and see where R.K enterprises stand.

Economic dimension: The Indian economy grew 9.2% last year and touches the 1 trillion dollar mark earlier this year . This was the second consecutive year for India to record such good economic growth. Foreign direct investment in India was 19 billion dollars and it has shown an increase of more than 700% over the last 3 years.(as per reference 1). The country is on the way of economic development and the numbers are showing it. Its sectors are showing growth. India is home to the highest number of billionaires in Asia, overtaking Japan. It adds 25 million people to the middle class category every year. India is also home to one-sixth of the world population. As we all know labour is available easily and at large. This makes companies not chose a permanent workers and rather go in for much smarter way of hiring temporary labour force. The potential of economic growth is phenomenal if R.K Enterprises in India can implement the right policies and take care of the shortcomings. India currently has a parallel black economy. It is estimated to be a whopping 500 billion dollars (US) by Professor Arun Kumar from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. This is nearly half the size of the official economy. Due to this there are various segments of the India economy that are getting affected. In fact the Indian problem is different than others, in most countries black economy is due to criminal and illegal activities but in India it’s a cause due to legal businesses and the government. The R.K enterprises I guess with help of Indian government should look to change this dismal state of our economic system as it affects businesses for example real estate price rises, inflation, foreign exchange inflows in India, avoidance of government taxes, and hence development of a country and a industry.
Socio-cultural dimensions: India is a country with quota system. There are job reservations by government organizations, educational institutions and this hampers the growth of deserving candidates. R.K enterprises are facing some problem against this regards. I am currently giving a view essentially about the quota system with regard to Indian education system. The Indian government actually ordered premium Indian institutes like Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) to admit students on basis of caste reservations. The government offered 157 seats in IIM and 1788 seats in IIT. (As per reference 3) These institutes produce the cream of Indian management and engineers. Similarly the government reserved 124,377 seats for schedule cast (SC) and schedule tribe (ST) students. While this comes across as a program to uplift the lower caste and underprivileged, the fact remains that the quota system came into India over 50 years ago for the same reason. But the fact that successive governments have done nothing but using it for vote bank politics so as to appeal to the majority and win elections. For a program initially introduced to help the underprivileged and then extended for over fifty years speaks volumes about the will of the government. Besides since India as a country is growing how long is the quota system going to help if the number of seats remains the same. The idea should instead be to have more educational institutes and create more opportunities for the students who are willing to study. Institutes like the IIM and IIT are premium institutions and students with lower abilities would only lower its standards. The government instead can instead provide educational facilities in rural India where private school may not go and where there is lower infrastructure. We will discuss the steps that can be taken in the application segment of this report to solve the education quota issue in India.
Biophysical Dimension: “Indoor Air Pollution” (IAP), resulting from the burning of wood, coal and animal dung as fuel for cooking food in rural India is claiming 500,000 lives in India every year mostly women and children. According to the World Health Organization, India accounts for 80% of the 600,000 premature deaths that occur in South – East Asia due to exposure to IAP . More than three billion people rely on the burning of solid fuels to prepare their meals. Burning solid fuels emits carbon monoxide, particulates, benzene and formaldehyde which can result in pneumonia, asthma, blindness, lung cancer, tuberculosis and low birth weight.(As per reference 4, Times of India). Pollution caused by IAP is actually for producing food and it’s ironic how though food that is suppose to lead you to better health is actually causing harm to the family of people. Also the fact that people in rural India are of the opinion that smoke helps kill mosquitoes , keep the snakes away and also add flavor to the food that they eat. Food cooked otherwise doesn’t taste the same. The unawareness speaks volumes about the fact that so needs to be done. Air pollution caused in India is also affecting the historical monuments like the TAJ MAHAL. Due to deposition of air particles the white marble of the TAJ MAHAL is turning yellow .
Further we are going to look at the mechanisms of sustainability that can help improve the above mentioned scenario.
Sustainability Mechanisms with regard to India:
A country with sustainable mechanisms can help in shaping the issues and develop a framework of sustainability. Stated below are mechanisms and there reference to the above context.
