The 30-share index has made further inroads into the negative zone, touching a low of 14,315.58. Banking, Oil, realty consumer goods and auto were under pressure. BSE Midcap and Smallcap index declined 0.65% and 0.40% respectively.
Sensex is trading down 425.85 points, or 2.88%, at 14,351.16; while the broad-based NSE Nifty fell 93.45 points, or 2.15% at 4340.10. (11.58 a.m.) Overall market breadth was weak. Out of the total 2,308 shares traded at BSE, 840 advanced, 1410 declined while 58 remained unchanged. All sectoral Indices are trading in negative led by Bankex (5.76 %), Oil & Gas (3.93%). Realty (3.55%). Rest all other stocks traded down marginally. However Teck and Health Care rose. Gainers at the BSE Sensex were Satyam, Bharti Airtel, and Hindalco that rose marginally by 1% each. HUL, RComm, NTPC, Wipro, M&M and Ranbaxy also gained. Laggards at the BSE Sensex include ICICI Bank, which plummeted 8.53 % followed by HDFC Bank, which plunged 7.21% and HDFC dropped 7.17%. RIL, Reliance Infra, DLF, JP Associates, SBI, L&T, Tata Motors and Ambuja Cement also declined.
